Where paddlers come to learn
From years as a sprint kayaker on the road to the Olympics, my image of a learning environment is looking over to my coach in the motor boat. The continual interaction between coach and athlete; motor boat and kayak, was key to my evolution as an athlete and, now, forms the backbone of my own coaching.
Of course, my coaches were in small simple uncomfortable boats. There was no wheelhouse giving cover. Yet, reflective of boats as vessels steeped in knowledge, the word "wheelhouse" conjures up these same images of learning with comfort and trust. For this reason, I am calling my school RAP Wheelhouse.
